What does Wakalatnama mean? وکالت نامہ

A wakalatnama is the document by which a client authorises an advocate to appear and act for them in a case.

It is signed by the client and the advocate and filed in the court record; without it a lawyer generally cannot appear for that party.

Chambers often keep the wakalatnama with the case file — in Munshi it can be scanned into the case’s documents.
